Building Stronger Minds & Bodies

Boxing & Brainz is a mindful boxing therapy that blends controlled boxing movements with mindfulness practices to help children thrive.

About Our Approach

Mindful Boxing Therapy

Mindful Boxing Therapy blends controlled boxing movements with mindfulness practices to help children develop emotional regulation, focus, confidence, and self-awareness.

This is not combat boxing. Instead, we use intentional movement, breathwork, rhythm, and guided reflection to give children healthy tools to release stress, build resilience, and strengthen their mind-body connection.

Our approach supports children who may experience :

  • Difficulty focusing or managing emotions

  • Anxiety, stress, or big feelings

  • Low confidence or frustration

  • A need for structured physical expression

Meet Dr. Somerville

Dr. Somerville holds a Doctorate in Sports & Performance Psychology and a Master's in School Counseling, combining advanced training in how people think and perform with hands-on experience working in schools. She is also a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer, with a strong understanding of how movement — especially non-contact boxing — supports children's mental and emotional health. At the heart of her work is a core belief in the power of confidence, focus, and endurance to help children thrive.

As a performance coach and school counselor, Dr. Somerville specializes in helping children build confidence, resilience, and mental toughness through a unique integration of mindset coaching, non-contact boxing, and physical fitness. Her approach is trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and grounded in over a decade of experience helping students navigate anxiety, big emotions, focus and behavior challenges, peer conflict, and school-related stress while becoming stronger in both body and mind.

She is especially passionate about empowering children ages 7–16 to develop emotional regulation, self-awareness, and healthy coping skills so they can show up as their best selves — in school, in sports, and in life. Her 8-week foundational boxing-based program introduces core skills like safety and boundaries, healthy outlets for anger, focus and impulse control, confidence, peer respect, test-stress coping, problem-solving, and a growth mindset, with the option to continue into longer training cycles where students deepen these habits and make them part of everyday life.
